# Atlas of Unrecognised States

> An interactive map and open dataset of the 691 mapped cases in the Compendium of Unrecognised States, by Julien Andrew Starr, Founding Director of the Startup States Society, Geneva. The Compendium catalogues attempted and contested self-governance from 1492 to the present. Not every entry is a state in law: cases range from recognised and de facto states and breakaway governments to micronations, seasteads and network-state projects. Each entry carries a kind-of-case label.
